Link Nurses
As part of Mackay Division for General Practice, the Mackay Rural Palliative Care Project has run a very successful link nurse program where specific nurses from the
district's residential aged care facilities have been provided with quality education in numerous areas to assist their work
with residents, families, and with other staff.
A working committee and an advisory committee, with members drawn from
residential aged care facilities, domicillary nurses, community representatives, Mackay Base Hospital, Mater Hospital, a chemist,
an oncologist, and doctors have met regularly for several years to ensure the work of the Mackay Rural Palliative Care project continues
to provide further help to those requiring palliative care.
