Nanyima Aged Care, previously known as the Valley Retirement Centre, is situated just outside Mackay in the Pioneer Valley, at Mirani. It has 22 high care beds and 26 low care beds with a respite bed which may be used for either high or low care.
The facility, which was officially opened on 4 December 1993, has ageing in place which enables residents to remain in their original rooms as their situation changes from low care to high care.
Nanyima has six wings with the last one being added in 2003. There are 55 staff members, most of whom live in the Pioneer Valley - this is a huge jump from the original staff number of 10 in 1993. In 2008 Nanyima was granted accreditation which remains valid for three years.
Each resident has their own room with an ensuite bathroom and there are several rooms which adjoin to cater for couples.
Nanyima has a 21 seater bus which transports residents to community functions both in the valley and in Mackay, and in addition the facility organises numerous daily activities onsite including cooking, craft, bingo, hoy and musical entertainment.
